This Technical Guidance Note is a revision of Guidance Note GN09 Laser safety, originally published by the WTIA
(now Weld Australia) in 2004. Whilst GN09 was based on the now-superseded Australian and New Zealand Standard
AS/NZS 2211:2004 Safety of laser products Part 1: Equipment classification, requirements and user’s guide (IEC
60825 1:2001, MOD), this revision has taken cognisance of the requirements of the latest editions of the following
Standards:
• AS/NZS 1336;
• AS/NZS 1337.4;
• AS/NZS 1337.5;
• AS/NZS IEC 60825.1; and,
• AS/NZS IEC 60825.14.
