Face to Face - Welding Supervisor - AS1796 & AS2214

A Welding Supervisor qualification expands your career horizons enormously. Both AS 2214 and AS 1796 Certificate 10 meet the requirements outlined in AS/NZS 1554.1 to supervise the welding of structural steel. Similarly, AS 1796  Certificate 10 meets the requirement for a welding supervisor under AS 1210 for pressure vessels.  Welding Supervisors play a vital role in industry—they understand the factors that influence welding quality, how to oversee welders  effectively, and the variables that help maximise productivity.

Course Delivery

The Welding Supervisor course includes three, one week blocks of face-to-face teaching.  All participants must write Paper A which is common to both AS2214 and AS1796. Then either Paper B1 or B2 depending on your prerequisite qualifications and whether you would like to have the AS1796 Cert 10 or AS2214 Welding Supervisor qualification. Only one qualification can be completed during this course, but you can study and write the other Paper B in the next course session.

Prerequisites

AS 1796 Certificate 10

To sit for AS1796 Certificate 10 Welding Supervisor, candidates need to provide evidence of one of: 

   a) A welder’s certificate complying with AS 1796, evidence of attending or having attended a course of instruction for welding supervisors and not less than one year’s experience in the welding of pressure equipment as defined in  AS/NZS1200 subsequent to gaining the welder’s certificate. The course of instruction, predominantly theoretical in scope, shall be of at least 120 hours’ duration.

   b) A welder’s certificate complying with AS 1796 and at least 2 years’ experience in the welding of pressure equipment as defined in AS/NZS 1200 subsequent to gaining that certificate.

   c) A qualification in engineering, metallurgy or welding and, at least three years’ experience in welded fabrication, one year of which shall include evidence of welding on pressure equipment as defined in AS/NZS 1200, an example of sufficient evidence is a welder qualification test to AS3992 or similar.  

AS 2214 Welding Supervisor

To sit for AS2214 Welding Supervisor, candidates need to provide evidence of one following:

   a) Three years approved practical experience in the fabrication engineering industry, and successful completion of an approved course that includes:

        a. Welding process technology;

        b. Welding metallurgy;

        c. Weld testing and inspection; and

        d. Standards and specifications Steel structures.

   b) Three years approved experience in the supervision or inspection of welding.

   c) A qualification in either engineering, metallurgy or welding, and three years approved experience related to the practical application of welding.
