ISO9606 Welder Qualifications - Maryborough 50% Funding Available for QLD Students

This program is intended for welding personnel seeking to enhance their occupational knowledge through structured theoretical training and to obtain formal qualifications for welds they routinely perform, or to upskill and gain qualification in additional weld types/positions.

Day one: This will cover the BASIC non-mandatory job knowledge theory component of AS/NZS ISO 9606.1 covering the following topics:

• Welding equipment & processes
• Parent & filler metals
• Safety
• Welding procedures & welder qualification
• Weld imperfections

Days 2, 3, 4 and 5 will include practical welding training and examination, with students able to select from the following weld option

• Manual metal arc welding (MMAW/111) using Basic covered electrodes on carbon steel plates. Single and multi-layer fillets in the PA, PB, PD and PF positions. Single bevel butt welds with material backing in the PA, PC, PE and PF positions.
• Gas metal arc welding (GMAW/MAG/135) using solid wire filler metal on carbon steel plates. Single and multi-layer fillets in the PA, PB and PF positions. Single bevel butt welds with material backing in the PA, PC and PF positions.
• Flux cored arc welding (FCAW/MAG/136) using Rutile cored filler metal on carbon steel plates. Single and multi-layer fillets in the PA,
• PB and PF positions. Single bevel butt welds with material backing in the PA, PC and PF positions.

Why complete an ISO9606 welder qualification?

AS/NZS ISO welder qualification uses similar testing methodologies to other standards, but due to its recognition in many application standards and strict welding criteria, this allows the welder to work within their qualified range across the following standards:

Codes recognizing ISO 9606.1:

• ASME IX (Boiler and pressure vessels)
• AS/NZS 1554 series (Structural steel series)
• AS 1988 (Welding of ferrous castings: steel castings)
• AS 3992 (Boiler, pressure vessels and pressure piping)

Prerequisites

No official qualification is required for course entry although, welders need to have current basic practical experience in the welding process for which qualification is sought.

Training fee for the course

$1,500.00

Should students meet the criteria for the funding, their invoice will be reduced by 50% 

To be eligible for funding 

Manufacturing Skills Queensland has kindly offered funding for this training for Queensland participants. Eligible Participants will receive the training and examinations at 50% off the original price. Please review the criteria below. 

Participant eligibility

• Must be an employee of a Queensland manufacturing business
• Must meet the below prerequisites for the training
• Must reside in Queensland (If you do not reside in Queensland and want to travel for the training, you can still register however, you won't receive funding)  

Business Eligibility 

• Must be a Queensland manufacturing business with less than 200 employees. To apply for the funding as a business, please send through a document stating your current number of employees and your work place manufacturing capabilities
