Online - IIW International Welding Inspector Basic (IWI-B)


The IWI-B course is a globally recognised International Institute of Welding (IIW) qualification. This course provides general knowledge of welding, inspection theory and application, including: 


  • Non destructive testing
  • Mechanical and visual inspection techniques, 
  • Inspection procedures and acceptance criteria, 
  • Identification of weld imperfections
As a Welding Inspector, you will play an important part in ensuring that welded components comply with the appropriate International or Australian Standards, codes and client specifications. You may also be responsible for ensuring that documentation, procedures and welder qualifications (required to demonstrate compliance) are in place and adhered to.

The IWI-B is an online course ran over 5 weeks. This course will include a mix of pre-recorded material, live online lectures, and other learning resources. The combined learning resources will cover all the topics outlined in the schedule.

Prerequisites

Participants will need to provide evidence that they can meet the following entry conditions:

Training Pathway 1

This pathway is for those already holding an existing IIW qualification as an International Welding Practitioner (IWP) or a higher IIW qualification. These qualifications will allow those people to proceed directly to the IWI-B course, without having to write the Welding Technology Examination (WTE-B).

Training Pathway 2

This route is applicable to persons who are either a

        a) Professional worker (Cert III – Engineering fabrication); or

        b) Person having educational backgrounds in material science or engineering; or

        c) Have at least two years of professional welding related experience.

AND, have passed the Welding Technology Examination (WTE-B).

WTE-B eligibilityCandidates may decide based on prior learning and/or experience to complete the WTE-B.  They must complete and submit the self-assessment checklist WAE form-06, with their resume and other supporting evidence to training@weldaustralia.com.au for assessment. Once approval is given, candidates should decide whether to source additional training before attempting the WTE-B. The examination is completed the first Tuesday of every month.  Candidates can apply to sit the examination through the Qualification and Certification team by emailing qnc@weldaustralia.com.au 

Weld Australia has an online self-paced training platform that students can receive access to assist with their studies. It has pre-recorded lectures, review questions and WTE-B notes. Costs (including GST)

Individual Member: $2,415.00

Non Members: $2,495.00

Discounted course and exam fees are available for Weld Australia members.  To join, please go to the Membership page on the Weld Australia website, where you can see the tiered pricing according to membership type and the full PRICELIST. Course cost includes a 10% non-refundable deposit.

Exams are not conducted as part of the course but are required to be booked separately.
